The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that GEO Group Inc. cannot immediately appeal a district court decision that found it does not derive sovereign immunity from the federal government in a forced labor class action brought by immigrant detainees.
A federal judge sentenced convicted child molester Isidro Arcenio Alvarado, 58, a native of El Salvador, to active prison time after he pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship. The judge also revoked his citizenship and ordered him removed from the United States.
During the nine-day operation, which stemmed from intelligence gathered throughout December, ICE apprehended 38 illegal aliens at three construction sites in El Paso, Texas, and Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
